Every summer since 1977, the Maine Windjammer Association has hosted the Great Schooner Race, providing an opportunity for captains, crews and passengers aboard traditional vessels from all over the Eastern Seaboard to rendezvous for a fun day of racing.
Hailed as “the largest annual gathering of traditional schooners in America,” this year at least twenty schooners are expected to participate in the 46th Annual Great Schooner Race scheduled to take place on July 3rd, 2026 in Penobscot Bay.
This will be Morning in Maine’s 2nd year racing in the Great Schooner Race, which starts and ends at the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse. Last year we had an exciting race, with a photo finish, and took 2nd in our class!
This is the perfect tour for photographers, sailing enthusiasts and traditional boat lovers to get a full day of adventure on the bay.
This will be a full, action-packed day on the bay. Please bring both waterproof and warm layers, appropriate footwear and plenty of sunscreen. Lunch can be provided upon request for $50/person plus tax, with an option of lobster roll, chicken salad sandwich or veggie wrap with sides.
The passenger count will be capped at 16 guests to make sure there is plenty of room on board, make sure to save your seat now!
We look forward to sailing with you and experiencing an incredible part of Maine’s traditional sailing heritage.
